On Tuesday, November 28th, we received a request from Madoff Productions for a 30′ Circle Surround backdrop to  be used the following day for CBS’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Pre-Show. With only 1 day notice, we were able to provide a simple yet elegant backdrop that was seen across the world – just another example of a creative fabric solution from Pink Powered by Moss!

This is the first of a series of bi-weekly posts that will come out on Friday’s showcasing different uses for Pink Powered by Moss products where we will touch upon topics such as stage sets, room decor, entryways, and more! For the first post we are showing some of our costumes such as our Divas, Ribbons, and Hooplas, as well as a few other popular looks. On Saturday, October 1st, the second annual Bring to Light festival took place in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This nocturnal art party was held simultaneously with several other Nuit Blanche events throughout the world that have been gaining steam as an international celebration ever since the first Nuit Blanche that originated in Paris in 2001.  Over two dozen cities participated, including Brussels, Amsterdam,  Montreal, Toronto, and Washington. For New York’s version, a large section of the Greenpoint was chosen as the site, utilizing parks, warehouses, streets, as well as the waterfront which provided a breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline. As to be expected, the major element used in many of the installations was light and we saw all kinds of it at this festival; from projection, to LED’s and video-mapping. We were also involved with the festival as sponsors, providing our fabric screens for some of the installations. In addition we worked alongside artist Chakaia Booker creating a series of screens altered with different textures and washed out with strong spotlights in a piece called Shadows. It was great seeing the crowd interact with the screens and create a performance piece of their own. Check out some photos from Bring to Light below and stay tuned for some more on Shadows . . .

Last night, we sponsored one of Bring to Light’s workshops involving MadMapper which is one of the leading tools for video projection mapping today. If you’re not already familiar with this up and coming technology, you should check out a few videos of the growing art-form. MadMapper is software which provides an easy-to-use interface for mapping three-dimensional points to a two-dimensional plane which allowing you to create dynamic visuals that are completely adapted to the surface on which you’re projecting. Architectural works provide an amazing canvas for this technology, which we’ve seen recently on iconic New York structures such as the Manhattan Bridge from last week’s DUMBO Arts Festival or the New Museum (pictured above).

For this workshop, we found that our Pinkometry series provides ideal surfaces to demonstrate the capabilities of projection mapping. These pieces can be easily stacked and angled, and the end-results can be stunning. We definitely look forward to seeing what possibilities lie ahead for this emerging medium. Expect to see even more dazzling light forms at the Bring to Light festival in Greenpoint, Brooklyn this Saturday starting at 6pm!

Each year, the DUMBO Arts Festival seeks to highlight Brooklyn’s commitment to and presence in the arts community by presenting the best in local, national, and international art amid the breathtaking backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline.

The DUMBO Arts Festival attracts 200,000 visitors over 3 days with the participation of over 500 artists from a variety of disciplines, 100 studios, 50 galleries and stages, and 100 programming partners.

We were able to make it over on Saturday night to catch a glimpse of some of the great video and projection exhibitions which begin at sundown. With so much to see; it was difficult to fit everything in but below you can find some pictures of some of the installations which caught our eyes. You can see a full list of exhibits as well as descriptions and more info on the artists at the festival’s website.

One area which stood out in particular was the waterfront at Brooklyn Bridge Park. With the new glass building designed by architect Jean Nouvel housing Jane’s Carousel just having opened in September, in addition to spectacular views of Manhattan, this area became a natural gathering point. There was also a very cool exhibit placing a series of projectors in front of screens and inviting spectators to jump in the line of the light casting shadows visible on the other side.

Another highlight of the festival was a video projection installation called “Immersive Surfaces.” Video-mapping technology was used to cover 30,000 sq. feet of the Manhattan Bridge Archways creating a truly dynamic experience for the large groups of spectators gathered in neighboring plaza and tunnel below.

• Gold furniture – the sort of Lux, over the top furniture, White with rhinestones that kind of thing.  Several companies highlighted in this look  - AFR, Lounge22 Powered by Cort, Luxe Event Rentals, and Lounge Appeal.

• Rustic – Country look – Town and Country highlighted their Vineyard Line with lots of distressed countrified Furniture.  This trend also came through loud and clear in the ISES LA Table Top Display Competition.

• Inflatable décor, new players coming in from China, along with AirDD from the LA area and Inflate showing different ways of using self contained fabric inflatables. Also Blofield, this one is inflated chairs that tie into the Lux line of furniture!

• Entertainment – from Elegant Figures as the work of Champaign Creative to a much more Gritty Cirque of Zen Arts, and lots of music, entertainment continues to be a major part of the LA events scene.  I also loved Zoltar – the mind reader in a box – by San Diego Spotlight Entertainment.

• Social Media Lounge – this concept keeps rearing it’s head and it a great addition to a the trade show environment – bringing the digital world together with the real life. This rendition featured Lindsay Fultz of Middle Child New Media (@LindayFultz  ) and Jenise Fryatt from Icon Presentations (@JeniseFryatt).  They really got some great information and connectivity going with education, games and prizes too!

• Unusual venues continue to be popular – several museums – Madam Tussaud’s and the Hollywood Museum participated as well as diverse spots like LA Live.  I must tell you that being across from Lady GaGa was quite a site to see. People are really drawn to the figures. She looked so real. People walked right by my giant fabric sculptures to peruse her realistic wax skin.  Go figure!

Food trends – anyone? What were you seeing out there?

The keynotes both Hilary Harris and David Merrill were very well received as well as Howard Givner’s Event Learning Institute sessions.  AOO’s set design and production added large circular screens at the sides with related material – a great addition to the main stage.

I have lost count on how many years we have been involved in the Mermaid Parade. It is a New York, Coney Island tradition. This year, we joined the parade with all the Mermaids and Neptune with our signature Sea Creature designs, and introduced our newest creature – the Electric Eel. Our designs are a mainstay of this wonderful annual parade hosted by Dick Zigun and Coney Island USA, and they can be exceptional designs for you too. Think fun and family and Pink Inc. costumes. They are easy to wear, lightweight and comfortable and truly make an impact! My family and friends wear them
to Coney Island each year and have a blast. To see the Cyclone, the Wonderwheel and the Parachute jump all in one form or another is Great American History! Come out and join us next year! And in the meantime – find your inner fun self and put on a costume!
