How did it happen, a blockbuster of a show, created from the fashion work of designer Alexander McQueen, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC!

It was loud and noisy and everyone just got swept up in it.  Gotta see it.  Gotta go!  It had long waiting lines, it extended several times!…but I heard, if you join, your membership gets two in for a 8am-9am members only preview – no lines! So I figure I AM IN!

I am excited about my big day and as I wander in this is what I see!

An artists work, a body of fashion, on figures amounting to a retrospective of sorts – in this artists career.   It wasn’t just that though.  It was the display, the atmosphere and the way all the incredible fashion, structures and materials fit together to tell the story of an artists life’s work.

Seeing so many examples of the work in person was inspirational. Many examples of the fashion’s were created from exotic materials, textures and forms.  Highlighted by unusual ways to display or show the work such as a moving hologram, (which is shown below), the environment created transcended the sum of its parts creating an exciting experience!

Lighting, sound, color, form and a creative career added to this smart surprise blockbuster exhibit.

This year ISES EventWorld was held in a very HOT St. Louis on August 4-6.  We managed to be there right in the nations heat wave!

I wanted to tell you specifically about the event at The City Museum.  This is a spot for both adults and children.  Although most people probably view this as a child’s play land, I really see it as a place for adults to imagine and PLAY!

I never saw so many people walk out of an event with smiles on there faces, not smiles because they net a few nice people, smiles because they not only connected with people in a regular event networking kind of way, but they EXPLORED, IMAGINED, CLIMBED, SLID and SHARED experiences with their colleagues.

The City Museum’s website is just OK compared to the AMAZING EXPERIENCE it provides!

Built in a 600,000 sq’ former warehouse of the International Shoe Company, this Museum combines recycled architectural and industrial product and refuse AND wonderful, original Sculptures and sculptural form all under the watch of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly.

What a GREAT place to get adults to PLAY! If EVENTS and EVENT PROFFESSIONALS employed some of these techniques we may all have a lot more SMILES!

In 2010, the Design Museum Holon officially opened to rave reviews and brought a lot of attention from the design world to this Israeli city located just outside of Tel Aviv. The first thing that captures your eye when you see this building are these brightly colored ribbons weaving around, and upon further investigation you find that they create a highly functional museum, tied together by these striking sculptural forms.

The museum, which was designed by Ron Arad Architects, is part of a 16-year regeneration plan instituted by the Mayor of Holon, Motti Sasson, to establish the town as a center for design, culture, and education. It joins the already built Mediatheque Theater, Mediatheque Public Library, Holon Cinematheque, and the Israeli Cartoon Museum as part of the Holon Mediatheque campus.

The Design Museum Holon showcases site-specific exhibitions focusing on design concepts, objects and architecture. The museum also houses an extensive material library where designers from all different fields can find an extensive collection along with other valuable information for their taking. Currently on display at the museum is an exhibit called New Olds, which examines new ways of looking at common materials and how to assemble (or re-assemble) them.  If you find yourself in Israel, the Mediatheque campus makes for a great visit and this iconic new museum helps establish the city of Holon as a cultural and design hub within the Middle East.

In the past few months we had the pleasure once again to work with the Guggenheim museum in NYC. Unlike our previous project there in 2008, for which we designed, constructed and installed a structure, this time we were called in as consultants in the space preparation for the Lee Ufan retrospective exhibition that opened on June 24. The artist envisioned translucent fabric screens that would mask certain portions of the spiral gallery yet not block the light or fight the open feel of the building. We found the perfect material for the job, and provided direction on how to handle it at installation and how to maintain it throughout the exhibit. We attended the opening reception and were very happy with the end result. If only Frank Lloyd Wright could see it, he would surely approve too!

The Lee Ufan retrospective runs until September 28 and takes up most of the museum, including a few of the side rooms. Our favorite piece was Relatum (formerly Language) – a recreation of a 1971 installation of stones placed on top of cushions. As one of the core members of the Japanese minimalist art/philosophy movement Mono-Ha, Lee Ufan mixes natural and man-made elements with immaculate, exaggerated yet often whimsical precision. It’s a beautifully curated exhibit – we recommend it!

The monitor, sensors, and computer are completely contained within the 80mm thick wall, making it one of the most compact, interactive displays available. Moss EZ Interactive is a new way to highlight products and services to attract and keep customers in your trade show booth.

Each EZ Interactive wall includes eight LED-lit sensors so users can select from eight media files that you upload into the system. When you wave a hand in front of the sensors to select the media they want to see, LED-lit sensors light up and the corresponding video or slide show will begin to play.
